"I don't see our current situation as a problem, I see it as a world of opportunity. An opportunity for each and every one of us to make a difference."

Two local Midtown shops — City Bird and Bureau of Urban Living — are teaming up to host the first ever “Canfield Street Market“ on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. The sale will take place in the front courtyards of The Canfield Lofts at 460 West Canfield Street, between Cass & Second Avenues, in Midtown Detroit, next door to Motor City Brewing Works and across from Traffic Jam & Snug. Sounds like a great compliment to all of the cool events going on in the area this week.

The market will feature handmade and vintage goods by local artists and designers, including:
Detroit Lives! – Hand-screened t-shirts and totes by Philip Lauri
- MillieBea’s Vintage – Vintage clothing and accessories from Stephanie Selvaggio
- Land Patterns – New artwork by Sarah Burger

City Bird and Bureau will also be offering all of their regular favorites – modern home goods, recycled & eco-friendly gifts, handmade jewelry & apparel, Detroit collectibles and more. Together, their collections showcase dozens of Detroit-area artists and designers.  Live music and local beer may be involved, too.

This event is being presented in conjunction with the U.S. Social Forum. A percentage of proceeds will benefit East Michigan Environmental Action Council (EMEAC), a local organizer of USSF.  A complimentary shuttle (“Shuttle to the Hearth”) will run between Cobo Hall and West Willis & Canfield Streets (June 24-26, 8am-8pm). It’s a great opportunity for regional and national visitors to check out the local shops, galleries and restaurants in the North Cass neighborhood of Midtown Detroit. For a neighborhood directory, visit Shop Midtown or University Cultural Center Association.

Bureau of Urban Living is a modern general store offering home goods & gifts. City Bird is a store, studio & gallery offering handmade goods from regional artists and designers.  Both are open Tuesdays-Saturdays 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM on the ground floor of The Canfield Lofts at 460 W. Canfield Street, Detroit, MI 48201
