How he’s making his mark on the city of Detroit:
On how he got his start and accomplished his goals:
“Hard work and dedication. Rick Williams & I are 50/50 partners of Burn Rubber. I worked in retail for years before Rick & I purchased BR. I worked just your average jobs at the mall, including Puffer Reds in Ypsilanti .I’ve been into Hip Hop my whole life, but I was introduced to the Detroit Hip Hop scene by my cousin One.Be.Lo, I was a DJ for his group Binary Star. I started making my own music around 2004-2005.
On his sound:
“I don’t think I have a sound, I think I can do anything but I if I had to describe it, I would say Hip Hop/Fly Guy music”.
On why he chooses to stay in Detroit:
“Because it’s home, and it’s beautiful. I want the rest of the world to see what I see.”.
On his favorite things about Detroit:
“Sweetwater Tavern‘s world famous Sweetwater Wings. Burn Rubber, because of it’s originality & it’s dedication to represent home…and the people of Detroit, because they are real, there’s no sugar coating or fakery, they give it to you straight up, no chaser”.
On what he wishes you knew about Detroit:
“It’s not as bad as the media makes it out to be”.
On his “Renaissance State of Mind”:
On future plans:
” To make Burn Rubber the best sneaker boutique in the universe”.
Roland’s words of wisdom:
“It sounds cliche, but don’t ever let anybody tell you that you can’t do something. They don’t know the drive & dedication that you have in your heart, but you do”.
