Today marks the launch of HuffPost Detroit, The Huffington Post’s seventh local edition. The online publication has already launched similar properties in New York, Chicago, Denver, San Fran, Los Angeles, and DC. Good news for a city that is oft ignored by national websites with local pods. HuffPost Detroit kicks off with an introduction from Arianna Huffington herself and features a surprise shout-out to IAYD!

Considering our unofficial city tagline “Detroit Hustles Harder,” it should come as no surprise that GOOD’s Guide to Hustlin’ recently named Detroit as one of the best places to be “Young” and “Broke”. The story states, “While Detroit may not be the best city to seek your fortune, there is some incredible community activism brewing, led by young people who won’t let their city die. For every shuttered factory, there is a student group or an artist collective ready to revive a neighborhood”.

In today’s “Around The Nation” segment of NPR’s Tell Me More program, Michel Martin asks “Is Detroit The New Brooklyn?” I Am Young Detroit’s Margarita Barry and The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Scott Harrison were on air to offer their perspectives.

The New York Times is showing Detroit some love again! This time, Jennifer Conlin touches on the influx of young creatives that are “turning Detroit into a Midwestern TriBeCa”.
