Hamtramck is Detroit’s own little city within a city, and while it can be annoying to spell, many Detroiters still consider it their own. Thousands travel there for Packzi Day each spring and head to the Hamtramck Blowout in March, but this area has been getting a bit of press lately.

From the last day to register for Detroit elections to voting for the Hatch semifinalists, Detroiters are speaking up, or at least planning to.
This Tuesday was the last day to register to vote for the Detroit City Elections next month. There was a strong call to action, even on social networks, to “get registered!” A piece by Vincent M. Keenan stressed the importance of not letting Detroit’s creative vision and energy miss the poll box.

Considering our unofficial city tagline “Detroit Hustles Harder,” it should come as no surprise that GOOD’s Guide to Hustlin’ recently named Detroit as one of the best places to be “Young” and “Broke”. The story states, “While Detroit may not be the best city to seek your fortune, there is some incredible community activism brewing, led by young people who won’t let their city die. For every shuttered factory, there is a student group or an artist collective ready to revive a neighborhood”.
